Tuesday- Day 5

Eden continues to do well with her treatment and she shows no side effects from the treatment she is going through. She finally showed interest in walking and we spent the morning walking the halls . . . she did not even want to stop for music class. All morning I heard "going" which means lets walk. It is different when Dad's there then we hear "hold it" which means hold me. He complies with any of her desires and our evening walk she was carried.

We are very excited that we should be able to go home on Wed the 21st. This is a day earlier than her original 7 days we thought we would be here due to the fever she had last week. We are thankful that we will be able to be home on Thursday before our clinic day on Friday. It will just be nice that she can be unhooked from the IV to play, even if it is only for the day.

Please continue to pray
- for Ava she was not able to return to her room after surgery and spent the night in ICU
-that her bone marrow comes back with less than 5% on Friday
-Kurt and I are able to adjust to this new normal

love

  1. You all are doing an amazing job! Pierce's clinic day is Friday, too. You will be very much on our minds as we go in for treatments, knowing you are doing the same thing. We continue praying for you, for less than 5%,and that you are able to go home today because losing that IV pole for even one day is worth more than words can describe. We are very happy to hear that Eden is doing so well.
    Much love from Texas!

  3. Great to hear that all of you get to go home and sleep where everything appears to be back to normal. Being at home is the best medicine for little Eden and she'll enjoy every minute of it. We hope that the test results come back positive and a sigh of relief can come over your whole family. Eden is such a little trooper. Thanks for the updates, I really enjoy reading them.

  4. Kurt and Selena, I just wanted to let you know you we are praying for you and Eden!!! Little Girls are so strong. When Tess was born Matt gave me a poem and I wanted to share it with you.
    The Chosen Ones
I had a dream the other night, it came to me so clear. I stood before the throne of God afraid to come to near. God said to me, "I hear your prayers," there's answers you can't find. I asked you here to talk to me and help to ease your mind. I said, "Well yes God, I am upset" about my special one. This punishment is awfully harsh, whatever have I done? God looked at me and shook his head and said you've got it wrong. I sent this special child to you because you are so strong. I searched and searched to find someone with a love so rare, A parent so unselfish that could give that special care. I try and save my special gifts like those I'm speaking of, For special kinds of parents I call the CHOSEN ONES. Of all the ones to choose from, I think this I have done. A parent who deserves the best, an honor you have won.

We really learned that little girls are fighters and they really are a lot stonger than we think.
If you guys need anything please let us know!! Love ya, Matt, Tracy, Tess & Dane

  5. Kurt and Selena,
Glad to hear things are going well for you. It will be good to go home for a break. We're thinking of you all the time and praying for a full recovery.

This all brings back lots of memories of me being there 12 years ago...four monthes of Chemo and then about five years of follow-up visits. UIHC does a great job!

You have a tremendous job dealing with this, and dealing with it FOR EDEN. It's a scary thing_that Chemo_dealing with what it does to your body, but knowing that it's purpose is to take care of the cancer!

They help you there get thru it all. I know it will all come out fine, so hang in there.

This blog is a great communication tool, and you do so well giving the updates. I'll be watching for more updates. Thanks!!

    Love you guys,
    Carol & Richard

  6. Good Luck to my new friend Eden. I will be praying for you and thinking of you while you are enjoying your bed at home. I can't wait until I'm in my bed as well.
I'm sure I will be seeing you around.
Good Luck and take good care of yourself.

  7. Kurt, Selena, and Eden:
I want you to know that we are here for you-whatever you need-an ear, hand, shoulder. We know exactly what you are going through. Our daughter, Emma, was also diagnosed with ALL at 21 months old just 1 year ago. It has been quite a year for us, but we want to share with you our experience and story if you would like. Emma and Eden can meet. When Emma was diagnosed, I could not talk to anyone-it hurt too much. So, if you want to talk, let us know. You may remember me from the Community Chest Board.
Emma is also being treated at the University and Dr. Staber is her doctor. She is wonderful, as well as all the staff we have met.
Emma has a site if you are interested in checking out: www.caringbridge.org/visit/emmalangstraat

    Our email is: langus@mchsi.com
    Phone: 319-461-5339

Please let us know how we can help. Please do not hesitate to call or email us.

  9. I heard the news as well through Jeff and Molly Greiner. They ask for prayer, and I have been and plan to continue to pray for little Eden. I check your blog everyday. By the way I love how you explain how Eden communicates. "going" and "hold it". She looks and sounds precious.

  10. It is great to hear that you were able to come home and that Eden is not having any side affects from the chemo. Think of you often and pray that you will feel the strength of the Lord as he holds you up during the battle. Connie S. Bauer
